RTITB, a leading workplace transport training accrediting body, has established RTITB Middle East as a wholly owned subsidiary of RTITB Limited. Its new permanent headquarters is based in Muscat, Oman.
The new office supports training institutes, vocational colleges, and companies across the Middle East. It provides ready-to-use training materials, train-the-trainer courses, consultancy services, and quality assurance for lifting equipment operator training, heavy vehicle, carriage of dangerous goods, and bus and coach training. All with the backing of RTITB as its International Awarding Body.
In addition to supporting organisations in Oman, there are also already two RTITB approved training institutes in Bahrain. RTITB is officially confirmed as a recognised awarding body for heavy/lifting equipment training by the Bahrain Ministry of Labor.
“RTITB has supported lifting equipment safety in the Middle East for more than 10 years,” says Laura Nelson, Managing Director for RTITB. For example, RTITB has been a Lifting Operations International Awarding Body for OPAL (Oman Energy Association) for the Oman National Occupational Standard Project since 2022.
“Up to the end of 2023, we had already issued over 43,000 certificates in the Middle East. It is clear that there is a desire to enhance workplace training across Oman, Bahrain and beyond,” she continues. “This strategic expansion is a reflection of RTITB’s commitment to working closely with our stakeholders in enhancing safety. It will better serve our valuable partners in the Middle East region.”
From its new base, RTITB Middle East aims to deliver resources and solutions to ensure a high level of quality training and support, primarily for operations with heavy and light goods vehicles and lifting equipment operations (including materials handling and plant equipment). RTITB Middle East also supports customers with buses and coaches, airside ground support equipment, or fleets carrying dangerous goods.
“The official establishment of RTITB in the Sultanate of Oman marks a significant milestone in the RTITB journey towards growth and expansion,” says Abdullah Al Busaidi, who was appointed as Regional Director for the Middle East in 2023. “We will be able to provide localised and dedicated support to customers and partners in the Middle East, helping to reduce risks and improve operational efficiency.”
