RTITB will now offer End-Point Assessments (EPAs) for Urban Driver (ST1025) Level 2 (V1.0) apprentices. RTITB has been recognised as an awarding organisation by Government regulator Ofqual (The Office of Qualifications and Examinations).
“RTITB focuses on providing EPAs for transport and logistics because that’s where we’re industry experts,” explains Nina. “However, we’re also experts in assessment. So, we know that the right preparation can set apprentices up for a successful EPA after all their hard work.”
To help apprentices get ready for their assessment, RTITB has developed an online EPA Portal. This includes workbooks, mock assessments, and other resources. This support for apprentices is included in the cost of the new Urban Driver EPA.
The Urban Driver apprenticeship is designed to train multi-drop delivery drivers, operating fixed axle vehicles over 3500kg. Urban driving requires a different skill set to an LGV Driver, who will typically operate larger vehicles, providing a point-to-point service over longer distances. While LGV Driver apprentices will acquire their C+E licence as part of their training, Urban Driver Apprentices must already hold a category C or C1 licence to undertake the apprenticeship.
RTITB’s Urban Driver EPA consists of three parts. There is a multiple-choice test, a practical assessment, and an interview. The interview is designed to assess the apprentice against the knowledge, skills and behaviours that would take too long to observe in a practical setting, or which do not lend themselves to practical assessment.
Together these elements provide a robust process for measuring the apprentice’s knowledge, skills, and behaviours. This helps give employers a pipeline of talent with the reassurance that they meet the standard.
As RTITB does not deliver apprenticeship training, its EPAs are fair and impartial, while providing a cost-effective solution. All RTITB EPAs are regulated by Ofqual providing External Quality Assurance.
“Apprenticeships are an important piece of the puzzle when it comes to nurturing new talent and solving our industry’s skills shortages,” says Nina Lane, Head of EPA for RTITB. “Offering high-quality EPAs means that we can be part of an apprentice’s journey towards a rewarding career in transport and logistics.”
The Urban Driver (ST1025) Level 2 (V1.0) EPA complements those already available from RTITB. These include Express Delivery Operative (ST0103) Level 2, Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Level 2 (ST0259) and Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Driver (ST0257) Level 2.
