No more ADR Consortiums – what now?

Blogs | 28th Jun 2024

You may already be aware of updates to the ADR Consortium Model by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). As of 1st April 2024, there are no longer any ADR Consortiums. That, of course, includes the RTITB Dangerous Goods Training Consortium. But what does that mean for our partners and members?

In this blog we answer some questions you may have.

What is the RTITB Dangerous Goods Training Consortium?

The RTITB ADR Consortium was launched in 2019. It has helped businesses to comply with ADR legislation, to deliver and manage ADR training. It also helped to save money and time. Members had access to the SQA approved, up-to-date training materials. Members also received annual audits to ensure compliance and safety.

Why aren’t there any ADR Consortiums now?

ADR Consortiums existed to support training providers with training materials and training delivery. They helped companies to promote best practice and provided internal quality assurance. However, there was no application process for consortiums to have their training material approved.

To provide a more robust, sustainable model, companies providing training materials will now need to be formally authorised by DVSA. They will be known as ‘authorised associations’. And will be able to offer authorised training material to approved ADR providers.

We are pleased to confirm that RTITB is a DVSA authorised association for ADR.

What happens next?

Training providers (including employers delivering ADR training in-house) will now need to pay application fees bi-annually, direct to DVSA. If you use authorised training material, you will pay a slightly reduced rate. This reflects the efficiency of submitting pre-authorised materials.

The current manual of practice will be replaced by GOV.UK content. Associated guidance documents and support materials will also be made available.

If you need help to get started with your approval to provide ADR training, follow this link. It covers how to set up courses, how to apply, and what the costs are.

Where can I find authorised ADR training materials now?

As a DVSA authorised association, RTITB still offers ADR related materials via our online shop.

You can still secure our ADR Dangerous Goods Driver Handbook and ADR Dangerous Goods Trainers’ Guide USB now to support your ADR operation and training.
