Our new training materials for Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) trucks are now available to pre-order at the RTITB Shop to help support you in both health and safety and compliance.
In any live working environment, whether in the warehouse, distribution centre, or training centre, there are numerous health and safety risks, from hazardous loads to the movement of vehicles, to racking systems. However, with the correct training and compliance with safety regulations, these risks can be managed.
That’s why as well as featuring content to help ensure that VNA operators can work safely, the new VNA training materials have been updated to align with the Basic Operating Skills Test for VNA Trucks (operator up/operator down), released in November 2021, covering F1 and F2 category trucks.
Your duty to control the risks
As an employer, you have duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998) and LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) to keep your employees safe, and ensure they are adequately trained for the job.
The new RTITB VNA Instructor’s Guide, which is available to pre-order now ahead of release on Wednesday 5th January 2022, gives Instructors and Trainers (both those delivering training in-house and as commercial training providers) everything needed to deliver the highest quality Novice, Existing, Conversion and Refresher training for VNA operators.
On release day, the MyRTITB TrainingFriend app and RTITB eLibrary will be updated with the VNA testing standards and training materials; giving instance access to the latest standards for those who have the app and eLibrary in their RTITB accreditation services.
VNA Trainer’s Guide – what’s included?
Packaged onto a handy USB stick, the new VNA operator training materials have been designed to allow qualified Instructors and Trainers to set up and conduct:
- Rail or wire guided VNA operator training
- ‘Operator up’ VNA operator training (where the cab raises and lowers with the forks)
- ‘Operator down’ VNA operator training (where the cab remains at ground level)
The RTITB USB training materials include:
- Instructor Guide PDF (including a session library and practical exercises)
- Slide Deck (PowerPoint presentation)
- Mock Theory Papers
- Associated Knowledge Question Papers
- Course Handouts
- Test Marking Sheets (pre-use and practical)
Why choose the new RTITB VNA Trainer’s Guide?
Using these VNA training course materials, Instructors and Trainers can ensure that operators will have had opportunity to discuss and see a demonstration of safe operation of a VNA within the workplace and will be shown how to safely select a suitable operating area.
Of course, the responsibility for safety lies not only with the employer, but with the operator too. So, through the course, operators will gain an understanding of their duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and will develop an appreciation of the specific risks associated with VNA use. Authorisation to operate arrangements are also covered.
By completing the VNA training, operators will learn how to identify equipment components and safety features and how to conduct an effective pre-use inspection (with associated reporting).
