Kuehne + Nagel, one of the world’s leading logistics providers, has worked with RTITB’s Master Driver CPC Consortium to train 2,500 LGV drivers, helping to maintain their high standards and efficiency.
“For Kuehne + Nagel UK, our in-house Driver CPC training is essential not only for legal compliance, but also to ensure we maintain the high standards we are committed to,” says Robert Hollier, KNDL Operations Training Manager. “RTITB’s Driver CPC training is engaging and innovative and gives us the security of knowing we have a fleet of skilled, professional drivers.”
Kuehne + Nagel had a challenge of training 2,500 drivers with minimal impact on the business. Legally, their drivers must complete 35 hours of Driver CPC training within a 5-year period in order to retain their certification, equating to 17,500 hours of training per year or 87,500 across the 5-year cycle. The next training cycle is due to end in September 2019.
Despite the need to carry out demanding training on a large scale, the support from RTITB enabled the process of delivering the courses to be simplified, even with ongoing refresher training needs. As Driver CPC training from RTITB can be tailored, Kuehne + Nagel is able to deliver bespoke training reflective of the drivers’ overall experience and existing challenges faced within the business while remaining in line with the company ethos.
“With RTITB, it’s not just the usual supplier and customer relationship – it is more like a partnership,” says Robert. “Our training needs are often demanding and delivery on this scale can be challenging. However, RTITB offers an unrivalled level of support throughout every step of the process.”
Kuehne + Nagel now has Driver CPC trainers within the business who spread enthusiasm and motivation about the training so that drivers can clearly see that their professional development is important to the company. Employees are keen to learn because RTITB training is delivered in bite-size modules which are developed specifically for Kuehne + Nagel in partnership with their Driver CPC trainers and constantly evolve to ensure they remain stimulating and relevant. This positive experience has driven engagement in all types of training at Kuehne + Nagel, not just Driver CPC.
Delivering RTITB Driver CPC training at Kuehne + Nagel UK has resulted in a more highly skilled fleet of drivers, improving both professionalism and efficiency. The overall quality of driving is improved, and the importance of safety is instilled within the fleet, helping to reduce risk and accidents.
“By working in partnership with RTITB to deliver Driver CPC training, Kuehne + Nagel has been able to benefit from an extensive library of training topics and bespoke course content as well as guides, reference materials and 24/7 online reports,” says Laura Nelson, RTITB Managing Director. “As part of the RTITB Master Driver Consortium, Kuehne + Nagel is also able to benefit from the knowledge, experience and support of other businesses that are delivering Driver CPC training.”
“We aim to support businesses so that they can deliver training that reduces both operational inefficiency and cost, while making things as simple as possible,” continues Laura. “For example, while Kuehne + Nagel’s instructors deliver the course, we manage the difficult, time consuming activities, like DVSA uploads, records of attendance, quality assurance, course creation and course content reviews.”
As RTITB Driver CPC companies are audited regularly, working with RTITB motivates Kuehne + Nagel UK to uphold ongoing high standards while ensuring legal requirements are met and the risk of accident or injury is reduced.
Robert Hollier concludes “We chose RTITB as we felt they offered the best course. Both the training and support are of such a high quality that I would happily recommend RTITB training to other organisations.”
