FAQ’s
Below you will find a list of our most frequently asked questions and answers
Q: I ’ve lost my forklift card/certificate, what can I do?
A: If you’ve lost your RTITB forklift certificate or forklift ID card (sometimes referred to as a “forklift license card”), don’t panic! We’ve got a handy form – which you can find here – and send to us so that we can find you on our system. Either download and email us a copy, or print it and send us a copy by post.
Give us as much information as you can. Make sure we have a contact telephone number so that we can call you if we need to check anything.
Unfortunately, if you were trained before 2003, we won’t be able to find you in our system this way. In this case we would recommend contacting your forklift training provider to see if they have record of your training. If not, you will need to attend an existing operator training in order to re-register.
If there is anything else our team can help you with, get in touch by filling out the contact form here.
Q: Can I check that an operator's forklift card/certificate is valid?
A: If you want to carry out an ‘RTITB licence check’, all cards and certificates issued by RTITB (from Aug 2018) have a QR code. Simply use your phone camera to scan the code and search our forklift operator registration database.
Alternatively, you’ll find a 9-digit NORS registration number on the card/certificate. Click on this link to search for the operator using this number. If the forklift operator is in our NORS database, their profile will show up. Click on ‘Details’ to view their training information.
All NORS registration numbers are 9 digits in length. If it looks like RTITB forklift card/certificate (or what you might know as an ‘RTITB licence card’) but the number is less than 9 digits, save yourself some time and don’t search it. It won’t show up. Instead, give our QA team a call, on +44 (0)1952 520215.
Q: How can I check that an Instructor's qualification is valid?
A: Want to do an RTITB lift truck instructor check? Simply find the 9-digit registration number on the card/certificate. Click on this link to search for the Instructor using this number. If the MHE Instructor is in our database, their profile will show up. Click on ‘Details’ to view their training information.
All RTITB registration numbers are 9-digits in length. If the number on the forklift card/certificate says RTITB, but is less than 9 digits, save yourself some time and don’t search it. It won’t show up. Instead, give our QA team a call, on +44 (0) 1952 520215.

A: Your forklift qualification won’t expire, it’s for life. But your registration with RTITB will expire. You can renew it, by going on a forklift Refresher course. It’s entirely up to your employer whether they allow you to continue operating once your RTITB registration has expired, as it may affect compliance and insurance. Q: How long does a forklift licence last?
A: Although many people refer to it as a forklift licence (or sometimes an RTITB licence), you will actually receive a forklift card or certificate when you complete your forklift training. A: We no longer supply plastic NORS forklift operator cards. (Sometimes referred to as a forklift licence or RTITB licence).
On successful completion of RTITB Counterbalance Lift Truck Operator training, or similar courses, your training provider will be issued with a link to the eCard via email. The link is usually issued to your training provider within four hours of completing the course.
If you need a physical copy of your certificate, a PDF version will be sent to your training provider or employer, which they can print off for you.
If there is any issue with receiving your forklift certificate/card, please call our NORS team directly on +44(0)1952 520204.
Q: Do my forklift certificates belong to me or my employer?
A: Your forklift qualification belongs to you. Not your employer. However, some employers will put training agreements in place that may affect this. For example, some accrediting bodies, e.g. RTITB), may issue non-transferable certificates if requested. These may only be valid with a particular employer. Or on a specific site, for example.
Q: How do I register my forklift instructor qualification?
Q: I’m a RTITB registered Instructor, can I deliver RTITB accredited training?
A: No. RTITB Accreditation is different to RTITB Registration. RTITB Accredited training partners are visited by the RTITB team annually to have their systems, facilities and training delivery audited. Additionally, Accredited Partners are required to register successful trainees on the NORS database. Instructors can become accredited in their own right, or they can work with accredited partners.
You can find out more about how to become RTITB accredited here.
If you don’t want to be accredited, you can still issue a certificate for forklift training you provide, but it must follow this template.
Q: How do I know if my training is RTITB accredited
A: You’ll find a unique 9-digit RTITB registration number on your certificate/card if your training is RTITB accredited. You can do an RTITB certificate check, by entering your unique number here.
Q: Where can I find my registration number?
A: If you are logged on our NORS database, you should be able to find your 9-digit RTITB number on your certificate/ID card. If you are unable to locate your number, please give the NORS team a call on: +44 (0)1952 520204.

Your employer may prefer you to hold a forklift qualification from a different awarding body.
Q: Is my RTITB qualification recognised outside of the UK?
A: RTITB qualifications are widely recognised. That includes in the UK, Ireland, and the Middle East. Our standards and qualifications are also known globally. But, ultimately, it remains a decision for the employer.
